Venice police union trims wage demands in first contract talks
In Venice the FOP and city officials met for the inaugural police contract talks, with a tentative schedule set for Dec 13 at the Venice Community Center. The union reduced initial pay demands by about 1,000 annually, citing turnover and below average city wages.

North Port Declared Urban Area by State and County
North Port has been officially recognized as an urban area by Sarasota County the Florida Bureau of Census and the state Department of Transportation. The DOT reports a major project on State Road 39 extending to I 75 at an estimated 3.086 million dollars, 400 days, completion by February 1983. A bike lane contract of 36713 dollars to MacAsphalt Inc will run one mile along U S 41 from Bolander Terrace to Tuscola Boulevard, about 50 days to complete.
