London reports Abbas II the bedive is accused by Constantinople rulers of pursuing a pan Islamic project to found an independent kingdom on Egypt’s Nile banks. The piece argues his aim is gone and he now recognizes British influence as central to Egypt’s progress and his own position. It notes Abdul Hamid’s attempt to discipline the khedival court and Lord Cromer’s likely stance against such rebellion.
