Janesville Wisconsin August 13 The Janesville Milwaukee local on the Milwaukee road Whiteta pulling out of Janesville collided with a switch engine pulling loaded cars of coat Burt Schlatter engineer Janesville and Gus A Hondrath fireman cloth of passenger train killed. Other train hands escaped by jumping. None of the passengers injured.
A Times dispatch from Constantinople reports the sultan, distressed by recent events, fainted in his garden on Monday and has been confined to his bed since. London rumors contend that Mc Stern carried out bulicide according to a Daily Telegraph dispatch.
A message from the Chinese government through Yu Keng the Chinese minister in Mauris warned European governments to urge their representatives to leave Belkin. It said the Taung Li Yemen would not be responsible for casualties resulting from delays in replies to the Chinese offer to conduct them under escort.
Charles R. M. Ferrell, former Adams Express employee, was arrested in Columbus and confessed to robbing Adams Express way safe on the Pennsylvania eastbound train. One thousand dollars was recovered. Ferrell planned marriage to Miss Lillian Costlow, daughter of engineer Patrick Costlow, but had been unable to secure work since his dismissal.

Stevens Point Wisconsin August 13 Martin the 26 year old son of Job Hantinger was knocked from a moving freight car. One leg was severed then he held on for 150 feet before the second leg was torn off. He crawled to shade under a box car and asked a companion to fetch his severed limb. He later collapsed from loss of blood and died at 5:30 PM.
An autopsy on Ralph Miller who died after a boxing match with Victor Baldwin at Richmond Hill L. I. found death was caused by a brain blood clot. The pathologist did not confirm if the clot came from a ring blow. Separately, Southern Pacific plans a September launch of a Galveston steamship line.
Ten thousand attend the opening of the Lincoln memorial at Old Salem Chautauqua Grove. President N A ransom of the state Institute presides at the ceremony while the Chautauqua choir provides music. Funds were raised in ten days of the prior year and the memorial serves as a visitor headquarters with a 10 000 seat amphitheater on the grounds along the Sangamon River.
In Georgetown Dr Prewitt denied telling Wharton Golden he doubted Tallow Dick Combs caused the Goebel shooting. Combs entered the adjutant-general’s office after the crime. Golden and Prewitt faced and denied claimed statements as spectators watched the cordial exchange. Golden later said arrest was possible, and the pair discussed shifting blame to Powers, who was said to be innocent.
Milwaukee August 10 Robert M La Follette of Madison was nominated for Governor by acclamation at the state convention. The list includes Jesse Stone for lieutenant governor William H Froehitch for secretary of state James C Davidson for treasurer Emmett A Hicks for attorney general Lorenz D Harvey for state superintendent Graham L Ricer for railroad commissioner Emi Greham for insurance commissioner and General George E Bryant as state central committee chair.

In Birmingham Alabama on Aug 11 a young couple Turner and his wife were traveling with their baby for the first time. At McFall the whistle screamed and they panicked leapt from the moving car. Turner was killed and the wife injured. the baby survived with a broken leg.
Paul Jansen, a New Jersey counterfeiter and painter, made a failed suicide attempt in his Hudson County jail cell when a rope brought by a woman and stored in thick soup was used to hang him. Police later identified the helping woman as possibly his sweetheart, not a sister.
Extreme heat grips the central and eastern United States with Philadelphia reporting three deaths and twenty prostrations, Pittsburgh two deaths and seven prostrations, and Chicago four deaths and sixteen prostrations. Milwaukee and Dubuque also record fatalities, while New York reaches 95 degrees with one fatal heat incident. Carrie Peters, 12, is believed kidnapped near Huntley, Illinois after vanishing while playing in an orchard.
Columbus reporter details F. M. Redek of Falling Springs West Virginia who attempted multiple poisons to end his life, then leaped fifty feet from a statehouse dome into the court area and died. Also notes arrival of a transport with nine officers and 412 men of the Fourth Infantry in New York.
