Reports from Chefoo August 6 say Viceroy Li Hung Chang urged crushing the Boxers who attack foreigners. The empress encouraged anti foreign attacks. Proofs show a reward was paid for foreign heads and a cage for foreign prisoners was found. Gen Ma and Gen Sung command about 15,000 troops near Tientsin, short of food and ammo.
Pekin reports the imperial ruler defies the powers by executing former minister Hen Ching Cheng and another statesman for urging pacific measures toward the allies. Li Hung Chang allegedly says ministers are hostages and will be killed if forces advance.
New York reports arrangements by the war and navy departments to support American forces in China beyond Pekin, including moving base operations from Nagasaki to Taku, securing six months of supplies, fuel, and arctic gear for Taku and Chefoo via land routes, with Brig. Gen. Weston coordinating six months of subsistence supplies and Ludington arranging transport of 27,000 tons of fuel.
Union Pacific train the St Louis limited was held up by two masked men at Lyman Junction in mid night. In Lincoln Illinois on August 6 a severe horse whip attack was delivered to William Gribben by Birkland Hoffmen a relative of a young woman Gribben is said to have abducted Hoffmen say Gribben deceived the girl into eloping with him promising marriage which was not fulfilled Gribben left town quickly and the girl was returned to her family.

Aug 6 reports say Celesta Le Masters a widow living miles south of Shelbyville feared spooks. Relatives locked her home and took her to Indianapolis for treatment. That evening she rode a late train back, then destroyed most furnishings and attempted to burn the property before returning to Indianapolis. She disclaims knowledge of the act.
The Marine Hospital Service received a telegram from Post Assistant Surgeon Thomas reporting four plague cases and two deaths in London. Diagnosis confirmed by bacteriological tests. In Shenandoah Pal, burglars entered John Monger's boarding house at Browneville shortly after midnight and threw two trunks from a second story window into a backyard. One trunk carried $50 and the other $326. The trunks were found shattered at 6 am with the money missing.

Forest Fire at Sopp's Arm White Haven Newfoundland Aug 6 destroyed a large saw mill and over a million feet of lumber. The fire also damaged the standing crop valued at about one million dollars. A schooner nearby was damaged but used to transport timber. The disaster rooted at least one important facility and caused wide damage.
