Mrs Celia Hutter Dies In Plain Wisconsin At 26

Mrs Celia Hutter of Plain Wisconsin died June 19 1896 at age 26 after a four week illness from peritonitis. She married John Mueller November 20 1890 and left a grieving husband parents M and Mrs M Hutter Fredericksburg and four brothers. Funeral held at Methodist church with Rev J R Sanford officiating, large attendance, burial at Union Mound cemetery. Catholic Parsonage improvements under Father Brogan described with costs near 500 dollars. W H Lyford and Emmons Worsyth cited as decorators and workers.

Special Train for Endeavorers to Washington

The Chicago Great Western Railroad offers a free special train from its line to Washington D C on Monday July 6th. The train will carry drawing room sleeping cars and be led by W W Lewis of Oelwein Iowa, who has secured many rooms in Washington hotels at prices from 75 cents to 300 per day. Prospective passengers should apply to Mr Lewis for accommodations and to F H Hunter for sleeping car berths, as space is limited.

Army Worm Invasion Report From Bremer County

The true army worm has invaded Town this year with reports from several counties including Bremer. The worm is 1.4 inches long, dull gray with black stripes, greenish underside, and pale yellow head. It appears after drought years. moths lay eggs at night between grass blades. Farmers can deter them by plowing furrows, mixing arsenical poisons like Paris green or London purple, and spraying ahead of their movement. Hogs reportedly feed on worms, helping reduce them. Uncertain why outbreaks vary by location or year. Oelwein disrupted by band engagement with the senior group.
