Army worm outbreak hits rye fields at Willow Lawn and nearby farms
Last week Henry Osborn warned of army worm invasion in Towa. Bowman Bros. lost about 90 acres of rye on Willow Lawn farm while J. C. Smalley, A. B. Harriman, and A. H. Clarke reported infestations. Bowman Bros. applied a deep furrow method to deter worms and sprayed pastures with Paris green. Special Train to Washington for Endeavorers July 6
The Chicago Great Western Railway will run a free special train from all stations to Washington D C on Monday July 6. The train will include William Drawing Room sleeping cars under Rev W W Lewis of Oelwein Iowa who has secured rooms in Washington hotels at 75 cents to 300 per day. Applications to Mr Lewis for accommodations and to F H Hunter for sleeping car berths should be sent promptly as space fills. Waterloo plans an electric railway to reach the park for the Chautauqua Assembly opening June 25 with speakers Gordon and Bry an, Dr McIntyre and Gunsaulus among others.
