The Hymera monument honoring Nathan Hinkle was completed last Saturday with a dedication program. Speakers include Jos Barcus and John Mitchell, a parade of soldiers and locals, and a Joe H. Davis concert later that day. Nathan Hinkle, Revolutionary War veteran born in Pennsylvania, lived in Lawrence County before settling near Hymera.

In Sullivan County at the B N saloon on North State street Monday night Al Isbell known as the county’s bad man was fatally wounded and lies near death at Basil Smith’s home. Lon Shaw who fired five shots surrendered at the jail claiming self defense amid a grudge.

Miner Dies in Hamilton Mine Tipple Accident
In HYMERA Indiana on September 23 Mark Bryan aged 25 was killed at the Hamilton mine two miles southeast of town. He went below to start a pump and when signaled to surface the engine did not stop. Bryan was hurled to the tipple top and his head crushed before his body fell 3380 feet to the shaft bottom. The Bituminous Coal mine is owned by a local company.
