The corner stone of Sullivan's new high school was laid Tuesday afternoon in a ceremony led by Sullivan lodge No. 147 of Odd Fellows. Dr. Walter N. Thompson spoke for the school board and A G McNabb for the lodge. President W W Parsons of the State Normal School gave an address as hundreds attended, including 740 city pupils.

Murderer Hanged for Mine Camp Wage Theft Killing
Milo Van Kovacevic hanged in Washington Pennsylvania on September 8 for the death of Samuel Ferguson, son in law of Z T Montgomery. Ferguson, a pay master for a construction company, was killed by a dynamite mine explosion as his buggy passed a road near New West Middleton to the Wabash railroad camp while transporting 25000 dollars to pay workers.

George Gastineau Jr Victim Of Peculiar Mine Accident
George Gastineau Jr son of George Gastineau of this city suffered a peculiar accident at the Jackson Hill No 4 mine on Wednesday afternoon. While repairing an engine a steel rod loosened and pierced his left hand passing between the second and third fingers without breaking a bone. On reversal the rod pulled free as he rode to Sullivan on a bicycle using his right hand to guide. Injury dressed by Dr G W Higbee.

One Man Killed And Two Injured At Union Coal Mine
In a fall at the Union coal mine one mile north of Sullivan Samuel Shepherd was instantly killed while Stephen Hopper and Ira Cochran were severely injured. Hopper fractured a collar bone and Cochran suffered cuts to the head and neck as slate collapsed after a shot loosened roof supports. The workers moved two coal cars and cleared the entry before the slate fell.

Edgar Wallace Akin Jr from Carlisle married Elizabeth Irma Galt of Sterling Illinois Wednesday night at 8 in the bride’s mother's residence. About 200 guests attended the Presbyterian ceremony. The wedding party included maid of honor Gertrude Feilder and bridesmaids Sue Whittlesey Edith O Neil Margaret Morris Euclave Smith with Eugene Hoyne as best man. The groom, son of Carlisle residents, is a bank cashier and Lake Forest graduate. The bride, Smith College alumna, is active socially in her hometown. They will spend two to three weeks in Wisconsin before settling in Carlisle.

Zenia Moore daughter of Jordan and Sarah Moore born August 2 1878 died September 10 1904 after a year of sickness. Clover Seed Harvest Brings High Returns Near Carlisle

Mrs. Lens Harnish mother of Mrs. John Hunt of Sullivan died Thursday in Cincinnati at age 75. Funeral held Saturday. She was wife of Charles Harnish Sullivan’s first baker who moved to Sullivan in 1854 and lived there 28 years. The couple had nine children born in Sullivan and Mr. Harnish was a charter member of Sullivan Masonic lodge.
