Sullivan County Republicans met at the court house Saturday afternoon to select a county ticket and hear Hor. John C Chaney speak. The gathering filled the room with delegates and sympathetic Republicans, while Democrats watched closely.
Dr James Miles of Merom candidate for Coroner is a medical school graduate and practicing physician. Robert P Beckett of Hymera runs for Commissioner from the first district, praised for integrity and fitness. Thomas L Jenkins of Haddon township seeks the third district Commissioner seat, noted as a Civil War veteran and respected citizen.

Cary Littlejohn of Jackson township seeks Representative seat and is a coal miner and former miners union president at Hymera. George C. Youngman of Gill township runs for County Treasurer as a respected farmer and leader in the Sullivan County Farmers Institute. Samuel O. Self of Sullivan town is a Painter’s Union member and current Town Clerk running for Recorder. James M. Barnett of Jackson township, a carpenter and union member, seeks Sheriff. John Ersinger, a recent Sullivan County resident, files for Surveyor with extensive gravel road and public works experience.
The Republican convention for Greene and Sullivan counties Saturday chose Will H. Hays as Prosecuting Attorney nominee. Born in Sullivan county, he trained in law since youth, graduated high school then Wabash College in 1900 with top honors, and has practiced with his father, Hon. John T. Hays. He is described as capable and of sterling character, promising honest, efficient enforcement of state laws.
The report notes veteran attendees like Uncle Atwell Cain and Col. Bob Taylor at Sullivan County Republicans events. John T. Hays chaired well while Shiveley’s meeting outshone others and Stratton praised Republican ideals over policy. The convention drew a crowded turnout with mixed reactions.

George Goodman about 30 and miner at Farnsworth coal mine died from a fall of slate and rock. Dan Bushell was seriously injured with broken ribs and head injuries after both men were buried for about ninety minutes and rescued. the accident occurred four miles east of the city on the Illinois Central line with the cause still unknown.
Kenneth W. Self of Farmersburg attended the convention, a man who never misses a gathering. John H. Jackson of Jefferson township, longtime organizer, was present, recognized for his extensive work for the Republicans in the area. Mr. Chaney's address followed.
Charles J McCullough was born in Lawrence County Indiana on September 23 1868 and died September 18 1902 after a life largely in Sullivan County He married Louie McClanahan on September 6 1891 He leaves a mother a brother a sister his wife and four children Funeral services were conducted by A M McGuire at Palmer's Prairie Church with a large gathering of mourners.
The Vandalia announces a revised timetable effective Monday September 29 with trains altering arrival and departure times at Terre Haute. Train No 1 from South Bend arrives 11:15 p.m. linking to the main East West at 2:10 p.m. Train No 3 runs daily except Sunday to 4:55 p.m. Train No 14 departs Terre Haute North at 6:30 a.m. Train No 8 leaves North at 2 p.m. daily except Sunday replacing 4:25 p.m. service.
