Fatal Knife Fight at Gilmour on Monday
At a Gilmour home twelve miles northeast of the city a knife fight ended with Patrick slashing William Allen's throat, killing him instantly after Allen attacked and wounded Joseph Quackenbush. Patrick and Quackenbush were jailed. Allen, 35, had separated from his wife.

Thomas W. Douglas a long time resident of this city died last Wednesday at the home of Matilda Crooks. Born in 1828 near Shoals in Martin county. married Amanda Henderson in 1848, eight children born, four surviving: Sabina Gerkin of Carbondale Illinois Charles Douglas of Fairview Oklahoma Steven Douglas of Joliet Illinois and Matilda Crooks of this city. Funeral services were held at the residence Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. John Montgomery. Burial was in Center Ridge cemetery.

Ransom L. Akin son of William M. Akin of Evansville and former Carlisle resident died suddenly at his Evansville home from heart disease. He was 56, a leading Evansville businessman, and survived by his wife and two daughters. Funeral services were held at his Evansville home. He was nephew of Joe T. Akin of this city and Charles T. Akin of Carlisle.

Four Watering Troughs For Public Square
County officials approved a $200 appropriation for four flush with the curb concrete watering troughs at the public square corners. Sullivan will provide water, kept running, and the troughs will not sit on the street. Investigator Mullane reported after consultations with the town board and county commissioners.
