Barney Parsons and his wife and three children were killed in a brutal triple murder in Texas county Missouri. Suspect Jodia Hamilton confessed and lynching fears prompted deputies to guard the jail while the community reels from the violent crime near the Piney river.
Carlisle news notes Rev Sam Small addressing a small crowd while criticizing Congressman Chaney. Sheriff arrests Hamilton on mule-linked murder suspicion. he confesses later amid rising threats of lynching. Also reports a new Hygiene Cabinet Co kitchen cabinet plant by Risinger and Ellis and local visits from Mrs Seely Andrews of Atlanta amid a cancer illness in Mrs Norris Reneau.
Asa C. Carter and Mrs Eva Myers plan a marriage in Farmersburg on Thursday and will immediately establish a home here. Carter works on the interurban line and has long experience in treating female diseases. Pet clothes that are made to heat in Manlas nat avan.
Dr J J Parker of Merom a candidate for the legislature is sued by Old Kentucky Distilling Co for 85 46 due on liquor purchases. Sullivan county grand jury indicted Parker for selling liquor without a license. motion to quash sustained. Parker previously indicted for illegal sales and pleaded guilty with fines.
In Cass on a Saturday night a fight at Pless saloon led to Bogue Richardson being stabbed in the back four times by Claude Keene. Richardson, very seriously injured with paralysis of half his body, may recover. Keene fled for Indian Territory after the attack.
The Illinois Central asked the board of public works to change the trustee of the Indianapolis Southern to support a $10,000,000 bond issue for completing and improving the line to Effingham Illinois. City attorney said the change would not affect the city’s franchise or relations, the board granted the request. The move appears aimed at financing the mortgage against real estate assets and franchise rights.
Races move to Sunday morning at Shelburn ball park with finals slated to begin at 9 30 and likely finish by noon. Management plans to add 16 more entries to complete four additional heats.
Sullivan high school defeated Carlisle 5 to 0 in a fast game played in twenty minute halves. The locals were hurt by weak interference. Referee was Ray Willis of Sullivan.
Fairbanks reports rapid drilling toward new gas heat and lighting systems though gas supply and piping are needed. A push exists to materialize ideas before spring as consolidation of rural schools draws debate and interest.
Paxton October 17 brick work on the new school building is nearly finished. Masons are on the second floor and the building should be ready for occupancy January 1. Fred Wheaton is seriously ill with lung trouble at his home east of Paxton.
Albert E. Mavity of Carlisle Indiana has been identified as the baby winner of the second prize in the under one year class at the Woodmen carnival baby show at Lake View Park. Dr W A Dean in charge notified the parents and prizes will be awarded soon after his return from Rock Island Illinois.
Farmersburg Oct 18 The Collins family reunion at James Collins home drew about 200 attendees from eight Collins lines including families from Indianapolis. Speakers included A. P. Asbury and Rev. Mavity. The eldest attendees were Francis Wallace aged 81 and Polly Gaskins about 75.
Louis S Eaton a well known county resident died Saturday at 1 30 AM at his city home after about three months illness. Born on a farm west of town 73 years ago he farmed and later ran mercantile ventures and operated the Eaton coal mine. Surviving are wife Mollie Mason four children J Arthur Eaton Rollin Eaton Charles M Eaton and Kate Woods and a sister and three brothers. Services were held at his home conducted by Rev J H Carnes and burial was at Center Ridge cemetery.
In Farmersburg on Saturday night Orin Stanley resisted arrest and fought Marshal Shepherd, resulting in a fine of 15 dollars. Earlier Stanley had beaten an officer. Marshal Shepherd also arrested Carl Kendall for drunkenness and fast driving. J L Weeks served as cashier of the Farmersburg bank while the official cashier attended a sale. Lease papers for the new post office were signed, with a new building to replace the old one. A row of lock boxes will be installed after the move. Eight miles of cement walk are ordered, with a mile or two to be completed this fall and owners given until July to finish.

George Pierson of Mildred was arrested in Brazil on a charge of assault and battery filed by Anna Latshaw of Shelburn. He was arraigned in Sullivan, found guilty, and fined ten dollars plus costs. Latshaw described a ride, trestle seating, a scuffle, and Pierson’s escape before trial.

Frank Lisman, one of the area’s oldest residents, died Saturday at his home near the Greene county line. Born in Carlisle eighty years ago, he moved to Greenecoun at age ten and owned several hundred acres west of Linton with coal royalties. He was father to Mrs. A. R. Martin and Mrs. William Butler, and resided in the northeast corner of lot No. 48 in Shelburn, Curry township, Sullivan County.
