James B Kaufman and wife hosted a Gill township family dinner last Sunday for cousin Mrs. Sue Smith of Dalton Illinois. Smith is daughter of the late Alexander Raley a Kentuckian with Ginger Hill ties now owned by son Geo Raley. She lived in Gill township before moving to Dalton about 30 years ago with her husband Allen Smith. Their sons Charles and George joined her. Allen remained at home. Smith’s mother was Aunt Blaire Raley, sister of John L Keafman. She writes for the Union.

Fremont Voters Recall Early Campaign Memories
William Falconberry 68 of Sullivan county recalls voting for John C. Fremont in 1856 and every Republican presidential candidate since. A. H. Weir 70, also from Sullivan, began as a Republican and has kept to the party. Thomas Pogue 71 from Turman township voted for Fremont in 1856. Uncle Peter Hopewell, Sullivan’s oldest native, 78, once ran a Gill township blacksmith shop and reflects on pioneer hardships.

Robbery gang tied graves in Indianapolis graveyard scandal
Four bodies stolen from nearby cemeteries were found in sacks on Georgia street in Indianapolis. Victims named are Mrs Johanna Stilz Miss Glendore Gates Wallace Johnson and Mrs Catherine Doehring. Seventeen suspects include nine negroes three white doctors and a cemetery undertaker with about 100 graves despoiled in three months.
