Thix tun seeks damages from railroad company
Dr E D Thix tun formerly a physician now in Terre Haute has filed suit in the circuit court asking six thousand dollars damages from the C and E I railroad for loss of an automobile and personal injuries. He says on November 14 1911 at Scotts crossing two miles north of the city his car was struck by a southbound passenger train when he slowed for a call. He leaped from the car the engine failed to run and the locomotive struck and demolished the machine hurled him about twenty feet and caused permanent injuries and rupture surgery and prolonged nervous effects affecting his practice.

Drunken man bound over for assault in Shelburn stabbing
Morris Woolem, intoxicated last week, stabbed Sheriff Elmore of Shelburn. He appeared before Squire Calvert for a preliminary hearing on an assault with intent charge. Woolem could not post bond and remains jailed awaiting circuit court action.

Dixie Limited to Resume Winter Run on C E I Railroad

Miner Instantly Killed at Shirley Hill
Crosby Hunt, 24, a driver at Shirley Hill near Dugger, was found dead in the mine Thursday morning. Officials say he fell from his car while urging a mule, breaking his neck. He was unmarried, from Tennessee, and his body sent there for burial. Hunt belonged to the Loyal Order of Moose and Woodmen of the World, carrying $500 life insurance, and was a member of the Eagles.

High School Quarrel Ends With Knife Wound
Braxton Nash, a city high school student, allegedly cut Verne McArthur on the side with a knife after a personal quarrel. The incident occurred on the west side of the public square amid a crowd of students. McArthur’s wounds were slight. Nash is the son of Mrs. Anna Nash. McArthur is the son of Mrs. Ora McArthur. The case is under investigation by Principal E. C. Snarr.

Paving Work Approved on West Washington Street
The city council approved asphalt macadam on West Washington street and set Bergen's bond for maintenance at 5000 dollars for five years. The council also ordered Sullivan County Water Company to repair damages from main installations within ten days.

Lives Claimed as Jealous Husband Slays Ex Wife
Linton Indiana reports Tillman Taylor and Lulu Taylor gravely wounded by Edward Duncan of Hymera. Duncan, who fled mob violence, was spirited to Bloomfield after a frontier chase. Two victims later died in Terre Haute hospital. Duncan faced possible lynching. Children cared for by police.

Yearly Death Toll Reaches 313 in County
Summer disease reports show 49 deaths in Sullivan county in August and 37 in July. In total for 1913 the county recorded 313 deaths with seven infant deaths in August from diarrhoea and enteritis and six from external causes. Tuberculosis caused two deaths that month. In Sullivan city August deaths totaled seven, with fifty five deaths citywide in 1913. Diarrhoea killed one child. no pulmonary tuberculosis deaths reported.

Mr and Mrs Ben A Allen celebrated sixty four years of marriage at their Gill township home. The couple married November 14 1849 and began housekeeping in a log cabin on their farm. They moved once in 1871 and remain active Methodists with strong Republican ties. Their surviving child Rev Hayden H Allen attends the anniversary.
