Elections across forty two states show Republicans maintaining control of the national congress. New York re-elects Odell as Democrats make small gains. Illinois and Ohio show strong Republican wins while several western states vote for U.S. senators. The overall result preserves Republican majorities in both houses and state legislatures.
Indiana went Republican by an estimated 25 000 to 40 000 as nine Republicans and four Democrats joined the congressional delegation. Charles W Fairbanks is expected to be reelected to the Senate with a sizable Republican majority on joint ballot. The GOP also led the legislative ticket with strong margins, while Marion county favors Republicans in state and local races.
New York returns show Benjamin Odell won the governorship by 6 000 to 9 000 despite large Democratic margins in New York and Kings counties for Bird S Coler. Coler’s Greater New York plurality exceeded 115 000 but could not offset upstate Republican majorities. congressional delegation stands 20 R 17 D with current 22 R 32 D. Judge Gray ran ahead of his ticket. Democrats gain in the state legislature but not enough to challenge Senator Platt’s Republican seat.
Less than 60 percent of normal turnout in Arkansas congressional elections. All seven Democratic nominees won by majorities from 3,000 to 3,000. Republicans contested in all districts, with some areas seeing African American voters stay away. Rain and confidence in a Democratic win kept many at home.
The entire Democratic state ticket led by James B. Franter for governor won a majority estimated at 50 000. Turnout was extremely light, especially among Republicans, producing a sweeping Democratic victory and a legislature likely to be dominated by Democrats in both chambers.
Early tallies indicate Republicans will win by about 30 000 votes and gain three congressmen. Voters also appear set to give the GOP control of the state legislature.
In New Jersey the Democrats failed to seize a majority as Republicans stack up gains. The record plurality suggests a tight race with party balance continuing in the state legislature.
The Republicans win Chicago and statewide races with large margins. Busse carries city and Grook County by about 14 000, Barrett loses Sheriff by about 16 000, Killbossa county treasurer by about 8 000. Michigan elects Governor Bliss and a solid GOP legislature. Durand trails in Detroit by 4 000 to 6 000. Alger likely to fill McMillan term.
In a historic turnout, Pennsylvania exceed one million votes for the first time. Samuel W. Pennypacker, Republican, wins the governorship with an estimated 175000 plurality, and the GOP ticket fares well across counties with Democrats electing two or three local offices.
The report predicts a strongly Republican legislature unmatched since 4897 and notes Boiese Penrose is certain to succeed himself in the United States Senate.
Returns from 35 counties show a Democratic majority of about 30,000 in eastern and middle counties, suggesting a state ticket lead near 65,000. Democrats doubtfully contest the Eighth and Tenth districts, with both parties making claims in those races.
Georgia chose eleven Democratic congressmen with minimal opposition. Results in most districts were not tallied last night and only the Seventh district showed a tight race, while overall the election covered only congressional seats.
Democratic nominees win in all congressional districts except the Seventh with a large statewide majority. The "Itty white" Republican vote falls short of expectations while returns remain incomplete for exact tallies.

Republican claims a slight gain in Missouri county while Democratic headquarters project a 15 to 16 thousand city-wide majority in St. Louis, plus sweeping victory and two of three congressmen elected.
Wisconsin states Lafollette wins reelection and the GOP captures the full state ticket and likely control of the next legislature. The party will also elect a United States senator to succeed the retiring incumbent.
Democratic majority in the county fell sharply as Republicans gain in Sullivan and Knox counties. John C. Chaney appears elected to Congress, while Miers may lose in the district. Self and Hays run strong races. county officers likely defeated. Indiana and New York loom heavily in statewide returns.
Sousa's comic opera The Bride Elect drew a large appreciative audience in Shelburn on Friday evening. The cast thanks J. W. Martin manager of Red Men's Hall for his untiring efforts and the people of Shelburn for their courtesy. Sullivan visitors appreciate the hospitality and Mr Myers provided a welcome supper for the company and guests.
Friends and relatives gathered at Mr. and Mrs. Morris Ward’s home on Sunday November 2 with well filled baskets to celebrate Mrs Imma Ward’s 37th birthday. The party featured many gifts and a cheerful gathering with numerous family members and acquaintances attending from Flora and Sailor Springs Illinois.
