Soldiers Journey Homeward Across Midwestern Rails
Private Harris recounts a train trek from Mississippi to Cleveland and beyond during a long Midwest leg of the homeward drive. He describes stops in Bloomington Tipton Lafayette and Tipton again, playful misdirections with Paddy Flynn, a memory of a porter named Kelly, and Red Cross visits in Buffalo and Cleveland. Harris notes crowds, handshakes, and hunger as the troop crosses into New York waters en route to Camp Mills, ending with a tease of finishing the tale later.
