Douthitt Objects to Union Stand on Sullivan Franchise

W T Douthitt attorney for Indiana Coal Belt Traction Co writes to the Union urging publication of the full ordinance and arguing the board should grant a franchise only after proven intent to build. He contends opposition blocks interurban plans to connect Sullivan with Linton and mining towns, while the Union insists a 50 year grant is too generous and that the town should not be bound to one line.

Allan Hughes Dead A Pioneer And County Resident

Thomas Allen Hughes a pioneer of the county and one of its oldest residents died Monday at his home at age 82. He helped build the first Sullivan court house and was an early deputy auditor after the county seat moved to the city. An 149th Indiana Volunteer, he served in the Civil War and helped organize Home Guards. Survived by wife Sarah J Mahan and five children, funeral today from Cross street residence with G A R and D A R attendance. Burial at Center Ridge.

Sullivan's New Well at the Water Works

Sullivan's new well at the water works is finished and a final test will be made this week. A fine vein of water is found in the gravel at 70 feet. The well should supply the town with adequate water for present needs, though another well may be required if demand rises.

Death of Mrs. Murdock Near City

Mrs. William T. Murdock and Mrs. Nancy Jane Murdock died Monday of paralysis after 18 months of illness and two strokes. Born January 11, 1837 in Indiana, she was 66. A Baptist, she funeralized at Little Flock with Rev. W. A. Fuson. Survived by husband Clinton Murdock son and daughter Mrs. Dave Dudley.

Widow Mrs Lizzie Anderson Dies After Illness

Mrs Lizzie Anderson widow of the late Jacob Anderson died Tuesday morning at her home after an extended illness of general debility. Born July 30 1852 in Vigo county she was the daughter of the late William H Martin and a Christian church member. She leaves a daughter Miss Ola Anderson three brothers and two sisters. The funeral will be held at the residence tomorrow with burial at Liberty.
