Double Murder at Willfred Saloon Shatters Quiet
James Korby Howe a 33 year old saloonist at Willfred three miles east of Shelburn shot Chas Irwin and Arley Duckworth to death in the Willfred saloon around midnight. Howe fled to Hymera then surrendered to Marshall Bridwell and was jailed. Irwin a coal miner and Duckworth a married man with two children died in hospital.

The county Democratic organization elected officers at the courthouse Saturday afternoon. Retiring county chairman Charles H. Bedwell favored Dave Giles, while Circuit Court Clerk Charles R. Railsback backed Clyde Burkholder. Burkholder won four Haddon Township votes but Giles led the remaining twenty-eight committee members. Burkholder became secretary as Giles won chair, with Arthur DeBaun as vice chairman and Roy Kauffman as treasurer replacing himself.

She was married to Rufus Willard who died five years ago and leaves several children in Haddon township Detroit Seattle Los Angeles and Carlisle. Funeral held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the residence with Rev. Reid of the M B church Carlisle. Burial followed at Carlisle Odd Fellows Cemetery.
