An extraordinary aurora, one of the greatest displays, appeared Thursday night visible across the northern skies. Observers said the lights lit the heavens, caused by an electric meteors reflection on northern ice bergs.
Child Dies From Severe Burns In Accident
Beatrice McFadden five year old daughter of James McFadden an oil worker near Shelburn died Saturday morning from severe burns after her clothing caught fire. Remains were taken to Greenup Illinois for burial.

Mine official is arrested after assault on boss at Shirley Hill

Globe Trotter Lesturns for Visit at Old Home
William Thorn a nine prospector and globe trotter from Turman township visited his brother James B Thorn and relatives. He left Saturday for Virginia to see his wife and child after two years apart. This was his first Turman visit in 15 years as he pursued mining with large syndicates in the United States and abroad. He was in England when the war began and returned home via Siberia and Japan, having traveled to nearly every region except Australia.

Bates Pleads Guilty Sentenced to Prison
Homer Bates charged with assault with intent in the shooting of his cousin pleaded guilty before Judge Bridwell. Arthur Rounds of Linton also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to the state reformatory for 2 to 14 years, fined $25 plus costs. Rounds recovered and was taken to the reformatory last week.

Fairbanks Township reports a remarkable five hog lot totaling 2830 pounds with an average of 566 pounds per animal. James H. Scott bought the group from Edgar Strain and transported them to Terre Haute on Monday. One hog weighed 940 pounds, one of the largest in Fairbanks Township, with Strain receiving 129.75 after an 80 pound dock.
