The first diploma exam will be held Saturday March 21 at schoolhouses in Cass township Curry Fairbanks New Lebanon Mammoth Vein Hamilton Paxton Haddon Pleasantville Jefferson Graysville Turman townships. At 8 30 a m all eighth year pupils in the townships are eligible to take the exam. The diploma admits to high school without further exam.

Pioneer miner Robert Stewart marks 84th birthday
Robert Stewart a former county resident now living with his daughter Mrs. S. E. Buckley in Canonsburg Pennsylvania celebrated his 84th birthday on Friday. Born March 6 1824 he moved from England while young and became a pioneer coal man in this area. He helped sink the old Shelburn mine and assisted in sinking an early Evansville coal mine in 1864.

Grover Marlow Charged With Wife Desertion
Grover Marlow a former young man of this city was arrested last week at Harrisburg Ill by Marshal Willis on a charge of wife desertion preferred by his wife Flossie Marlow. He awaits trial under the law for a penitentiary offense. A prior paternity charge had been filed by the girl who is now his wife and they were married January 14. He left the next day and was found at Harrisburg Wednesday. He says he wrote to his wife but she did not receive the letters. He admits he left without informing her where he was going and gave no money since marriage.

Runaway Accident in Fairbanks Injures Girl
Florence and Geneva Bowen were returning from school when the horse became partially unhitched on Norris hill. Florence refastened the trace as the horse began down the hill, and Geneva leaped from the buggy in fright. New Depository Law Boosts County Savings

Charles Linscott a city plasterer who had been found insane and confined at the Southern Insane Hospital Evansville escaped last week and returned to his home Thursday evening. Alexander Snow Passes Away Pioneer Merchant of City
Alexander Snow a pioneer resident and business man of this city died Sunday night at his home after a stroke of paralysis. Born in Fountain county August 29 1827 he moved to Cass township with his parents Isaac and unnamed mother as a child and married Francis Clayton in Sullivan in 1853.

Longtime Cass County resident Dies After Life of Service
Mr. Snow lived in Cass township for years before moving to the city in 1902. He served one term as sheriff in 1864 and afterward engaged in farming grain and a general store near the E. T. H. depot. Survived by his widow and several children, his funeral was held at his residence with Rev. John Ragle officiating and burial at Center Ridge cemetery.
