Robbery Suspects Arrested at Terre Haute
Chief Oscar Rich announced that Charles Dufriend and William Mitchell of Terre Haute formerly Sullivan were arrested there after confessing to the Long and Warren hardware store robbery in this city. Revolvers found in a Terre Haute pawn shop, pawned by the pair, tied them to the crime. They said they had visited Sullivan three weeks prior but did not carry out the robbery.

Liquor Dealers Charged on 73 Indictments in Terre Haute
Harry Trattner and Ben Weiss, Terre Haute liquor dealers, were held on 73 grand jury indictments for illegal liquor possession and sale. They posted $7,500 bonds each after being arrested Thursday by Sheriff Hale in Terre Haute en route to trial, with witnesses absent delaying proceedings. They were previously arrested last summer on Jackson Hill No. 4 for peddling liquor in an automobile, and found with a large quantity of liquor.

The Vandalia Coal Company mine property six miles east of Sullivan near Advent church in Cass township moves to active operation. Sinking of the shaft is complete and machinery will be installed. A temporary tipple has been built and guides for the cages are being placed. No 5 vein eight feet thick was reached at 213 feet. No 6 and No 7 veins yielded a fine grade of coal.

Herbert Everhart of Jackson township was found guilty by a circuit court jury of assault with intent for shooting his sister in law Jessie Everhart after a quarrel at Willfred last fall. Grand Jury Indicts Several On Liquor And Gaming Charges
Last week and this week indictments were returned by the grand jury. Anna Snapp of Shelburn was jailed for operating a blind tiger after failing to provide bond. Otto Sebring Roy Banister and Bob Mayfield posted 500 bonds for keeping a gaming house. Mayfield also faced a separate count with a 500 bond. Jesse McCracklin was indicted for selling liquor without a license and for assault and battery on Elijah Howlett, with 250 bonds on each charge.

Robbers entered by removing a rear window pane at Long and Warren hardware store early Wednesday morning. They seized three revolvers knives and other items and stole three dollars from the cash register.
