Interurban fares lifted to 3 cents per mile
The public service commission authorized Terre Haute Indianapolis & Eastern Traction Co to raise passenger rates from 2 1/3 cents to 3 cents per mile effective July 1. The commission notes the rise won’t fully offset higher coal, labor, materials costs, and that neighboring state lines already charge three cents. The policy aligns with competing steam services despite inadequacy of the new rate.
