Township assessors finished work and sent reports to the county. The Board of Equalization and Assessor Walters are reviewing the lists and expect to finish this week. No official figures or statements were released for publication.

Fatal mine accident claims Shelburn miner

Isaac Pryor, a Shelburn coal miner aged about years, was crushed by falling slate in the Shelburn mines Tuesday afternoon around 3:30. He died about an hour later after injuries sustained in the fall. Pryor had lived in Shelburn for several years and is survived by a wife and family.

The Sullivan High School held its twenty first commencement Friday at the Methodist church. Class members listed include W Ray Beauchamp Nell Kirkham Kate Freeman Lulu Cain Dorothy McCloud Iva McKinley Glenn Nesbit Evelyn Reed Pearl Ridge with Miss Freeman and Miss Kirkham delivering the class history and prophecy Rev J H Carnes gave the address and Supt McCullough presented diplomas.

Crops in Sullivan County Show Strong Prospects

Sullivan county farmers report corn nearly planted and in fine condition with a smaller acreage than last year. Wheat acreage fell to about 65 percent of last year but remains in fine condition around 80 percent. Clover timothy fruit crops look strong with apples pears thriving. peaches and cherries were harmed by winter. Blackberry yield expected to be enormous and overall prospects are very good.

Charles Lambert jailed awaiting trial on raping 14 year old Cleo Belle Hunter. Also charged with fornication and larceny. Prosecutors describe Lambert as a dissolute character and expect a penitentiary sentence.

Farmer Frank Waters Dies by Own Action in Illinois

Frank Waters, a leading farmer from Crawford County Illinois, shot himself in the mouth with a revolver in a Tuesday afternoon act of despair. He was 70 and lived about seven miles south of Palestine.

Where Our Teachers Will Be This Summer

Miss Nan Wood will summer in Merom for rest and reading. Miss Hopkins will study kindergarten and primary work at Valparaiso Normal. Miss Hinkle stays at Farmersburg home. Miss Lyons may study briefly elsewhere. Miss Hanchette travels part of the summer. Miss Hull attends State Normal at Terre Haute and nears graduation. Miss Williamson canvasses in Kansas for the Student's Reference Work. Denney and Hanchette will visit Niagara Falls and other East points, plus a West trip. Gambill resigns to travel for a correspondence school. Bicknell rests and reads in rural settings. Miss Basset goes to Germany. Larr tries life insurance. Irwin and Price run the Sullivan County Normal beginning June 15. Supt. McCullough will visit Indianapolis, Terre Haute, Vincennes and attend the Boston meeting of the National Educational Association in July. He plans weeks revising the course of study.

Feud Ends in Deadly Duel Between Crawford County Farmers

In Crawford county Illinois near Merom Frank Burris and Henry York brothers in law fought a pistol duel after a long feud. York wounded Burris fatally three shots to abdomen and lungs while Burris wife witnessed. York, about 25, is held on assault with intent. Burris is charged with carrying concealed weapons.
