A cloudburst caused significant damage and loss affecting Ries Raen and the Elect Cal Storm of Season Mordpay Night. The event disrupted local operations and prompted emergency responses from regional authorities.
Storms cause levee breaches along the Wabash River as floodwaters rise to about 15 feet. Local crews report extensive losses to crops and property while accessible routes remain hampered by water and debris.
A record flood from a late storm battered Turman and Fairbanks counties injuring rail lines and washing out hundreds of feet of grade on the Illinois Central. Bridges failed near Busseron Creek, and farms across the area suffered fire, stock losses, and extensive crop damage with roads heavily damaged and water levels at historic highs.

The County Board of Education unanimously re elected Richard Park to succeed himself as county superintendent of schools. Park first won the post in 1845 and begins a 23rd consecutive year August 15, with a four year term. He is noted as the oldest in continuous service among Indiana superintendents and enjoys broad respect in educational circles.
The State Board of Accounts accuses J Frank Sproatt former trustee of Traddon township of illegal expenditures. A suit will be filed by Prosecuting Attorney Pigg after Eli Stansbury certified the board’s report. Sproatt faces charges of 3198.95 plus 882.50 for clerical and rent overages and excess payments to vendors including B Willis Son American Warming and Ventilating and a plumbing contract about 2005 dollars.
T B Springer of Springer Gouchenour bought over 12009 pounds of wool from Dave Graham Will Lund and others west of the city. Springer won against several bidders. The wool came from the Farmer's Union comprising farmers east of Sullivan.
Mrs Rebecca A Chambers a Paxton resident aged 87 died Saturday at her home. She was well known in Paxton community and local circles.
Jesse W. Medsker William 4H Pounds and others petition in circuit court to drain Turman township land owned by John J. Durham Jas Kelley and others. The plan calls for a large drainage ditch starting at the north line of the southwest quarter of the northwest quarter of section 14, township 8 range 11 west and running south to Turman’s creek.
Sheriff Hale and Deputy Otha Brodie registered yesterday under the military conscription law. Both are between 21 and 31 years old. The report notes that few Indiana officers in this role may have been required to register at that time.
Ross Harbaugh returned Friday from Fountain county near Mellett Indiana where he had been helping on his father's farm. He stayed a few days to visit his parents Mr and Mrs W W Harbaugh.
The Sunday school contest between Christian churches of Sullivan and Palestine Illinois ended last Sunday. Sullivan won by nearly five hundred with over 5000 attendees across the three month event. Both schools plan to report attendance to gauge lasting impact and Palestine will host a Sullivan picnic soon.
The board of county commissioners met in regular monthly session Monday. The day covered the routine allowance of claims and the resignation of William Schaffer as a justice of the peace in Curry township was accepted.
Judge Bridwell named the Sullivan County Council of Defense members to study and report on food production, finances, military matters and Liberty Bond sales. The group serves without pay, answers to the State Council of Defense led by Will Hays, and must be ready to provide data on county resources and mobilization as needed.
Representative Dick Thompson Morgan of Woodward Oklahoma will deliver the commencement address to Merom College graduates Wednesday at 10 oclock. A Vigo county native born near Middletown he has long served the Eighth District in Congress and previously represented Vigo county in the state lower house. He praised Indiana representatives Everett Sanders and Oscar K Bland during remarks.
Court notes show John W. Wolfe received judgment on a note against Fred E. Ford totaling 638.00 dollars. Chauncey Mattox was granted a divorce from Eva Mattox. The Dugger State Bank suit against William H. Crawford was settled and dismissed, as was the injunction suit of Joseph Rogers against John C. Chaney.
Crowder and Dave Rogers traveled from Chicago last week and visited George Ade at his country home near Brook. Ade and Crowder were Purdue University chums at Lafayette 33 years ago, and this was their first reunion since then.
