Dugger Coal Miners Walk Out On Strike
Nearly 300 miners at Vandalia Coal Company Mine No. 10 in Dugger struck Monday over use of electric lights. They met at Dugger locals headquarters while leaders in Indianapolis discussed the issue with International officers. The walk-out follows company attempts to enforce electric lights against the contract. An Industrial Board ruling requires electric safety lights with a warning that injury for willful noncompliance negates compensation. Miners argue lights reduce earnings and demand removal of electric hauling and cutting devices they deem more dangerous.
