Rip Baldwin, sought for over two years on larceny charges and linked to a box car robbery, arrived in town with John Beles and Tom Williams. Farmersburg report says George Berlien of Miner City was arrested by Marshal Lloyd on charges of selling liquor without license and maintaining a gambling house connected to his saloon. A prior raid yielded poker paraphernalia and liquor. Berlien posted bond for trial.

Sullivan Men Plan Cuba Visit and Island Land Interest

Charles Hereford Death After Mysterious Terre Haute Attack
Charles Davis known as Charles Hereford, a former Sullivan printer, was found Friday night in a Main street Terre Haute stairway with a crushed skull. The coroner reported a blunt instrument caused the head injury and he died Saturday night at St. Anthony’s Hospital. He was 27, born in the county, and had given most of his wages to his mother before his death. Police consider a fall or a drunken altercation as possible causes.

Arrest of James Arthur for wife desertion at Miner City
James Arthur, who left Farmersburg about a year ago, was arrested by Marshal Lloyd in Miner City early Saturday morning on a wife desertion charge. He was taken to Sullivan jail. Arthur had deserted his wife here, and has spent time out of state, primarily in the south. A grand jury had previously returned an indictment for wife desertion and a warrant had been issued at Hymeria.
