Shelburn post office was broken into on Friday night. The robbers took three dollars, two registered letters, and a sack with two hundred dollars left by the postmaster earlier, placing it under the safe to muffle noise. A local effort is suspected. no suspects named.
Anthony S. Robbins a well known citizen of the county died suddenly Sunday morning at his home from strangulation of the bowels. He was born April 6, 1844 near Paxton and lived as a farmer before moving to the city two years ago. He married Elizabeth Driver in 1872 and leaves a daughter Stella, wife of Ward Pigg. Funeral held at his South Sullivan residence conducted by Rev. Miller with burial at Mt Calvary.
A 25 day revival at the Christian Church ends with 56 adult additions. Reverend Miller receives congratulations from the congregation, aided by Professor A L Haley, an evangelist and singer. The revival ranks among the church’s most successful, second only to a 1886 effort by the late Reverend Black.
Sullivan residents discuss the old superstition as Brer Ground Hog reportedly saw a shadow, signaling six weeks of winter. Some local belief credits the ground hog while others note persistent cold in the area regardless of the omen.
Shelburn notes the death of Joshua Phillips a longtime county resident at age 64 after injuries from a P. and J. mine blast at Midland. He died at St Anthony's hospital Terre Haute after six ribs were broken and internal injuries. He earlier worked at Wilfred mine and held stock in Midland P. and I. mine.
Vincennes Ind Feb 4 The Republican convention in this city chose James W Emison and Judge Charles H Henderson as delegates to the National convention with Gus C Davis Thomas Brooks and Capt Beem named alternates The delegation will support Charles W Fairbanks for president.
In Sullivan the last remaining saloons lose licenses as O L Springer Ernest Dare Anderson Brothers and Levi Leach O J Dudley and James Dudley see expirations. Only the Terminal near the Davis house remains open until May leaving Sullivan dry for licensed saloons thereafter.
Severe cold did not keep many from attending the Riverton church dedication on Sunday. A special train transported attendees from Palestine back home as Dr. O. B. Whitaker of Union Christian College preached on the Evil of Creeds urging adherence to the Bible over creeds.
Robbers visited the Southern Indiana depot in Glendora Monday night and stole fifteen dollars from the safe. The safe had been locked by agent Harold Ford before he left, but someone with the combination opened it. No clues have been found.
Candace Ruddel sues Henry French in circuit court to declare him of unsound mind. A large turnout of witnesses from Merom vicinity attends as Mrs. Ruddel, daughter of Mr. French, resides in Robinson. Mr. French, a well known county resident near Merom Station, draws public interest.
Infant child of Mr and Mrs Denny Crosby of Jackson Hill No 4 died Sunday in Shelburn. Burial held at Little Flock yesterday as reported in local notices.
The county campaign heats up as Democrat David Crawley declares for treasurer against Ward, while John S. Dudley announces for sheriff. Wible and Bennett compete vigorously for sheriff, with Bennett favored by insiders. The piece recalls Crawley’s 1902 bid and notes distrust of treasurer political manipulation, plus local gossip, bus schedules, and a prison hair whitening tale about George Beasley.
Will Bridwell secretary of the Democratic County committee will host a Come Through meeting tomorrow afternoon. Candidates face a large assessment to cover expenses for the vote event on the 18th inst. With many hopefuls the funding plan seems risky and controversial among managers and entrants.

In Shelburn Indiana on February 4 a coal range fire blew the lids from the stove after pipes froze overnight. Mrs. Jesse McCracklin was in the kitchen but unharmed as the explosion heavily damaged the range and sent debris to the ceiling.
Charles E Shake formerly near Carlisle now in Bloomington reports residents oppose a proposed rise in home phone rates from 1.25 to 1.29 and business rates from 2 to 3 per month. About 1 100 phones were ordered out as citizens meet and resist the local monopoly.
Irwin Scott announced the death of C. A. Roy of Indianapolis a longtime figure at a prominent Indianapolis stockyard firm. He was well known to many stock men and farmers in Sullivan County. The funeral will be held in Terre Haute on Wednesday.
Dr L R Drake formerly of Fairbanks township has moved his medical practice to Palestine Illinois after graduating from Bennett College of Eclectic Medicine and Surgery in May 1906. He recently practiced at Prairie Creek.
Hiders May and Pinkstaff of Litchfield Illinois conduct a series of meetings at Good Hope Church beginning Friday night February 7 and continuing through February 6.
Elder J W Jackson, a well known minister of Curry Township, underwent a two hour cancer surgery on his left shoulder at Casey Illinois last week. He has preached for Concord church and this marks the start of his third year of service. Despite fears for recovery, the community hopes his condition improves rapidly.
Dr John A Marsh and Miss Pearl A Massey wed at noon Sunday January 19 at the George Gastineau home with Rev Melnette Miller officiating. The couple, from Indianapolis and Somerset, Ky., plan to reside in Indianapolis and attend a Seminole club reception.
Learns of his wife's uncle Anthony Robbins in Staffordshire while in town Monday, he secures George Gastineau and a car at Crowder garage and returns home with Mrs. Riggs to attend the funeral.
The county commissioners adjourned Tuesday morning and toured the county poor farm to assess tile needed to build a drain as petitioned for.
Vern Wolfe, confined at Gilbert's sanitarium in Evansville, announces Homer Wolfe must undergo a second operation. Vern has been in the sanitarium for treatment of a bone disease in his right arm.
Mr and Mrs Charles Zejdlik aged 102 and 105 died in Warren Minnesota this week. They were born in Bohemia and had been married 79 years.
