The Hymera Herald notes mail from Shelburn is frequently late or irregular, with periods when little arrives and other times when parcels are left for weeks. The editorial cites government rules as the root of the service problems.

Gambling rooms flourish in connection with saloons, with several unlicensed. A windstorm damaged the Bolinger block, injuring Tom Buckley when a window sash struck him, causing a head wound.
Foster Leonard near Staunton in Clay county and Miss Mertie May Street near Merom were married by Squire Kirkham in this city last Wednesday evening. The couple met at a school for deaf mutes in Indianapolis and plan to live in Staunton after their wedding. The groom owns a 120 acre farm in the Riley Oil field and is described as industrious.

The new Central Christian Church at Farmersburg was dedicated Sunday before a large crowd despite bad weather. Rev. L. L. Carpenter led with three sermons and was assisted by Rev. J. H. Mavity. Visitors from Terre Haute, Sullivan, and nearby towns attended. collections and subscriptions raised a handsome sum. A dinner followed the morning service and a detailed program marked the day.
Bud Scott was found guilty by a circuit court jury of stealing a can of lard from Patton's store. He claimed intoxication as a defense, but the jury returned a verdict after brief deliberation. Scott, previously convicted and released from the county jail, faces another term.
In Farmersburg on January 23 the Pastime Club voted against Rev A M Couchman joining, amid claims the club serves as a saloon front. Members, led by George Anderson, refused Couchman after a single dollar was offered, others say the front door is the only difference.
Sheriff Walters announces county wide enforcement to close liquor houses at eleven each night and ban Sunday sales. He warns against gambling and illegal liquor sales and vows vigilant enforcement with a warning to offenders to stop operations promptly. He cites poker games in Sullivan and other areas and urges compliance without trouble or expense.
George W. Fausel aged 50 a well known Carlisle resident died Monday afternoon while walking near Dr. Joe Whalen's office. A farmer by birth he moved to Carlisle later and worked in transfers before retiring. He is survived by two daughters. his wife died years ago.
Mrs. Anna Cummins, formerly of Hymera, now from Terre Haute, is in serious condition after the Big Four wreck at Sanford Saturday evening. Clayton Price of this city read the list of seriously injured and noted Louis Price of Vermillion Illinois. he suspected a brother. Terre Haute found no such connection.
The Lash mine near Farmersburg is closed due to issues with the pit boss. Two pit bosses failed to meet miners' requirements, leading Fred Lash to suspend work. An infant child of Mr and Mrs David Clark of Miner City died at birth and was buried in Bennett cemetery.
Sullivan officials report in the Sullivan circuit court the final drainage plan for HK Marquett et al v Nancy Black et al. A main open ditch 4 miles long will start at George W Hale’s Scottsville farm and drain into Busseron Creek. Cost estimated at 8759.55 with 50372 cubic yards of earth moved at 16 cents per yard. The ditch is eight feet wide at the bottom with a 45 degree bank slope and 25 feet of clearing on each side. A superintendent will oversee construction. no damages were assessed. Beneficiaries include Eli Marquett Caleb Summers Richard Hackett Francis Summers R I Summers Charles L Bond Sol G Summers and others with varied acreages.
An affidavit filed in Squire Kirkham's court accuses Winnie Boone a city bartender of selling liquor to a man intoxicated. Boone testified in Bud Scott's larceny case last week and his indictment stems from that testimony regarding selling Haquer to Scott while intoxicated on the day Scott was charged with stealing a can of lard.
Fire gutted the large barn of the Souther Indiana Coal Company near the Citiz ens Mine east of the city on Saturday night. Origin unknown, first spotted about eleven o'clock, the blaze spread quickly leaving nothing to save. Several mules tied inside the barn perished.
