The Masonic fraternity of Sullivan dedicated a new hall on the third floor of the Citizen's Trust building in a Thursday ceremony attended by visiting masons and lodge members. Leaders Hon. John T. Hays and speakers Hon. William T. Douthitt and George W. Buff praised the quarters, which feature quarter sawed oak, leather furnishings, a 48 by 65 main lodge room with frescoed ceiling, electric lighting, and rooms for commandery, wardrobes, ladies of the Eastern Star, Tyler, smoking, cloak rooms, lavatories, plus a dining room and kitchen on the east side.

Goodin Found Not Guilty in Embezzlement Trial
Ellis P. Goodin, former treasurer of the Farmersburg Eagles lodge, was acquitted of embezzling about two hundred dollars. The case in circuit court concluded Monday after a Saturday start, with the first-ballot verdict of not guilty. He testified there was no shortage and returned with marshal Charles Shepherd to Farmersburg. He and his wife have since returned to town.

Electric dynamo trapped in mud in Farmersburg
A 1000 light dynamo, discarded as too small for Farmersburg, fell from a Shelburn bound wagon and sank in mud, left all night. Shelburn men will install it in their new electric plant while Farmersburg replaces it with a 3000 light machine, the county’s largest.

Construction will start on a new 80 foot high tipple for the Belevue Coal Company near Carlisle. S Strong and Co of Terre Haute won the contract, citing previously building the Carlisle Coal Co tipple. The setup includes revolving screens conveyors one switch track and four 60 ton bins. The shaft currently reaches 155 feet. The mine will serve local and foreign contracts.

George W. Leach purchased the large department store from Martin W. Usrey on the south side of the public square for his son George W. Leach Jr. The two rooms filled with dry goods groceries shoes and other merchandise will be expanded. King H. The town board granted Domestic Gas a 25 year franchise to lay mains and conduits, with pipes under streets to two feet deep and a $100 repair deposit. Gas to town hall and public buildings priced at 10 cents per thousand feet, with 75 cents for heating, and patrons capped at 25 cents per thousand feet. Construction to start within six months, supply within one year.
Poison mistake injures five-year-old in Carlisle
Harold Nash, five, son of Ed Nash near Carlisle Indiana, was given a tea spoonful of laudanum by his brother Carl who mistook the drug for a cordial. A doctor was summoned and the child is expected to recover after swallowing about five grains of opium.
