William Alumbaugh who assaulted Mrs. Bogard at her home near Merom Station faces an affidavit in circuit court charging him with criminal assault. Alumbaugh, formerly employed by Bogard, entered the Bogard residence during his absence and later fled as Bogard returned and fired after him striking him in the left leg. Alumbaugh was jailed. Bogard was arrested after filing charges of surety of the peace and posted bond.

Lieutenant H. D. Mitchell announced to Priv ate Brooks that the Adjutant General has authorized enlistment of colored men for infantry. In the past year 790 district men enlisted. about 200 joined the 15th infantry for duty in China. Recruits go to Jefferson Barracks for training before filling nationwide vacancies. Additional troops planned for Panama and the Hawaiian Islands. Enlistment is for three years, with must be able to read and write and be 18 to 25.
