Frank Mason, who sold his farm two miles southeast of New Lebanon to Frank Kimterlain, will hold a public sale of horses stock farming implements and many other articles at the farm on Wednesday February 21 starting at 10 a m The sale is one of the largest in the county with a large stock of desirable animals and implements grain and other produce also offered.
Mrs. Nash Turner died Thursday at her Elm Park area home after a long illness. Survived by husband and two young children. Funeral held Saturday morning at the residence conducted by Rev. P. C. Lisman of the M. E. church. Interment at Webb cemetery near New Lebanon.
The Sullivan County Poultry Association held its annual meeting on Friday afternoon and elected Sam O. Self as president J N McKay as vice president 8 P Tutt as secretary and treasurer Emory Jennings as superintendent Floyd Dillingham as assistant superintendent. Executive committee includes S O Self M T Rossiter Clell Dillingham C A Beasley Mervin Willis and Hosea Steele.
A Sullivan citizen's letter about court house closet sanitation prompted referral to Dr. J H Neff and the county board. Commissioners pledge stronger sanitation and say arrests may follow if needed.
J. P. Polk of Oaktown a well known auctioneer in the county, suffered a stroke of paralysis Saturday at his home and is in a precarious condition.
A report states William Cook from Dagger believes a father and sister were among ten people who died, with family members presumed dead in the incident. He expresses grief and seeks clarity on the tragedy.
Dispatches recount a Kansas blizzard last week freezing to death William Cook a baker from Dugger and his son in law Richard Cook along with a daughter and three grandchildren at a Bucklin area home. Neighbors found the family dead after attempting to endure the storm and failed supply and fuel access.
The last C. and E. I. passenger train called the Florida Flyer had a close call at East Washington Street crossing Sunday evening when a wheel bar broke and the tender rested on the ground. The slow speed prevented a major wreck. A Terre Haute wrecking crew repaired the damage and the train resumed at midnight.
Mary Ann Sanders, identified as a pioneer woman, passed away Thursday afternoon at the advanced age of eighty nine. Her death marks the end of a long life rooted in early community efforts and local affairs.
Mary Ann Sanders pioneer resident, aged 101, died Thursday at her home two miles west of this city after five years of paralysis. Born November 1, 1822, she married William Sanders in 1849 who died in 1877. Survived by six children, funeral held Friday at her residence with Rev. P. C. Lisman officiating. Burial at Center Ridge.
John M. Gambill proprietor of the Banner store on the south side of the square sells his business to C N Bennyhoff of St Himo Illinois who takes charge. Bennyhoff will move here soon and is an experienced businessman. Mr and Mrs Gambill will return to their farm.
Charles Lillie will hold a public sale at the Samuel Lillie farm six miles south of the city on Tuesday February 27 1912 starting at 10 oclock. Sale includes draft horses mules cattle hogs vehicles implements and many other articles. See advertisement on page 5.
Henry O. Smith publisher of the Palestine Monitor, a well known Sullivan resident, has announced his candidacy for the office of states attorney in Crawford county.
Bruce Park, ill with pneumonia, shows signs of improvement at his father Richard Park's home.
C. R. Plety, a well known farmer from Fairbanks township, was in the city on a short business trip likely to discuss local agriculture and market matters with residents and fellow farmers.
