Woodsmall Dedell is released from jail on recognizance while Woodssmall furnished bond to secure his release. The event marks a new phase in the case as authorities monitor ongoing proceedings and ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions.
Charles C. Riggs of this city, held on highway robbery charges in Carmi Illinois, is returned here to testify before the grand jury. Henry Davey, alleged accomplice, was moved from Shelburn to Robinson Illinois, then to Carmi. Samuel Woodsmall and Grae E. Bedell, arrested in connection with the case, posted bonds and were released. Bedell appeared with his father in circuit court.
Governor Marshall reduced the $500 liquor sale fine on George W. Leach by $400. $100 was paid, leaving $217.95 in fines and costs. Habeas Corpus proceedings have been filed in the circuit court at Luc wn.

Theodore B. Shaffer who operated a north side grocery on the public square has closed his store and filed a voluntary petition in bankruptcy. The first meeting of creditors will be held here Monday at Hunt Gambill's office.
Governor Marshall refused parole for Elmus Carter of this city serving a life term in Michigan City prison. Carter was convicted of killing Joe B. Orr here with a brick several years ago.
Allen Trione a tramp who had found work on William H. Jones's farm near Merom Station died suddenly last week from heart trouble. No relatives were found and he was buried in Carlisle cemetery.
The Sullivan water system pipeline nears the pumping station east of Riverton. If weather remains favorable the plant may be in operation by February. Brick layers construct the pumping plant and new fire plugs are installed around the city.
William Riggs of Fairbanks sues Joseph W. Curry for breach of warranty over a mule bought for 140 dollars. The jury awarded Riggs 25 dollars after two days of trial and a long deliberation over the weekend. Riggs, a longtime state farmer, contends the mule was not a proper work animal.

A white bulldog owned by Hix W. Davis, suspected rabid, attacked several dogs and created a neighborhood scare on South Main Street. Patrolman Geo Webb shot the animal and the head was sent to the state laboratory for analysis.
The Sullivan County Bar Association holds its annual banquet at the Terre Haute House in Terre Haute on Thursday January 2. Afterward members and their wives will attend the comic opera Officer 666 at the Grand.
The city of Sullivan will have no city treasurer to elect next November as the current treasurer Burrell Dubre’s term ends January 1, 1914. With the waterworks transfer to private control, the city’s municipal financial duties shift to the county treasurer and county auditor for tax duplicates and bookkeeping fees.

The handsome new Baptist church in Dugger was dedicated Sunday with an all day service joining multiple denominations. Dr. Myron W. Haynes of Chicago led the morning and evening services and Rev. I. C. Overman of Linton attended, with other ministers present. A luncheon followed in the basement at noon.
The Dugger post office moves from Civil Service to presidential class with a 1000 dollar annual pay. The postmaster will be appointed by the president. a Republican is likely if appointed now, a Democrat if later. Current postmaster E O Chowning is a Democrat, reflecting local political influence.
Miss Elsie Denney, teaching in Bloomington, is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Denney.
The State Board of Accounts accuses Adam C. Miller of Curry township, Sullivan county, for 1905–1906. Direct charges total 1706.32 dollars, including 352.25 for in and out fees and 742.12 for excess mileage in transfers. The matter is with attorney Thomas Honan and Wells & Co. for action.
Governor Marshall pardoned or paroled more than 900 inmates from the State Prison and Indiana Reformatory in four years, far ahead of prior administrations. The record surpasses the combined paroles by Mount, Durbin, and Hanly over twelve years, and exceeds the total of 379 for the previous era.

Homer Shepherd thirty five year old coal miner was shot in the mouth at Caledonia by Lee Vandergriff twenty six. Shepherd paralyzed on one side and not yet known if wounded fatal. Vandergriff arrested by Sheriff Wible at his father in law Baldy Stewart’s Caledonia home.
Dr. E M Corbin, secretary of the city board of health, orders all dogs muzzled from December 23 to January 23 following reported rabies symptoms in a local dog, Hix W Davis. The measure aims to curb spread during the rabies scare.
Mrs. R. W. Cadwell presented a piano recital on Wednesday evening that raised $25.00 for charitable purposes in the city.

Local scrappers prepare an exhibition under the Shelburn Athletic Association tomorrow evening. The program features three all star matches showcasing local talent in a community event.
The Shelburn Athletic association will stage three ten round all star bouts December 26 at Shelburn. Eddie Hart faces Kid Kahn in the headliner with Kid Skelly vs Roy Anderson and Young Leroy vs Tommy Brentlinger also on the program. Hart aims for top form after a recent defeat while Kahn, a fitter lightweight, recently returned from a western tour.
New boxing bill targets Shelburn with ten round bouts featuring Hart Kahn and Skelly Leroy Brentlinger and a top clash between Brentlinger and Leroy. Kid Herman’s camp touts all three fighters as in peak form and a special Terre Haute to Shelburn car will shuttle fans to the show. A crowd of 100 locals and affordable interurban fares are planned.
