Rev Dr G Smith denounces women wage earners while admitting no facts refute his claims. He links child labor shifts to female labor, urges laws restricting under 18s from heavy work, equal pay for equal work, and criticizes divorce as a social erosion tied to women in the workforce.
John P. Squire & Co. and allied meat packing firms assigned to lawyer Herman W. Chaplin. Liabilities total about 3 million with assets around 5 million. Plant appraisal places value at East Cambridge and Somerville at 2 million. Company founded in 1896 with 8 million in paid capital. most stock held by the Squire family. Creditors are mainly Boston and New England banks. The failure is blamed on tight money markets.
Tom Springer Jr corrects a previous corn shucking item from New Lebanon Indiana dated December 15 1808. The Ephor Union notes Elmer McCammon should be listed at eight bushels instead of three and recounts Joe Milam shucking 150 bushels in nine hours with wagons and cribbing. Shucking paid two cents per bushel.
