Shelburn December 1 Melvin Tennis 28 a machine runner at Jackson Hill No 4 mine was killed by an unknown assassin on the E T H rail line between Star City and Goosetown Saturday night. A bolt ended his life after a struggle. his body lay on the tracks before a freight train passed. Coroner Brewer found signs of a brutal struggle and blood on the bolt. Tennis had been seen with about $40 or $50 in around Dunnville earlier that evening. He leaves two brothers and a father in Arkansas. funeral services were held today conducted by Rev Sidebottom with K P Lodge in charge. He had recently moved from Indian Territory and planned to marry Christmas Day.

Rufus Zaayer Pioneer Resident Dies at Home
Rufus Zaayer a pioneer resident of the county died Sunday night at his home east of the city from a complication of diseases of advanced age. The funeral was held Monday at his residence conducted by Rev. J H Sammis. Interment was at Mt Calvary M E cemetery. Born April 15 1831 in Piqua Ohio he married Mary Ann Allspaugh on August 23 1855 and eight children were born, three of whom survive along with his wife. Surviving children are William Allyn Zaayer and Mrs Anna Banks. He joined the German Lutheran church in Ohio and later the Presbyterian church after moving to Indiana.
