Dr. Charles J. Jones, 66, president of Union Christian College Merom, Indiana, died at 2:30 p.m. after sudden stomach pains. He led the college for two years, raised funds for improvements, and organized six Christian churches. Survived by widow, four sons and two daughters. Funeral planned for Marion, Indiana.

Ray Wilkes of Shelburn, about twenty one, attempted to pass forged checks at Springer and Carruthers store and at Cowles Maxwell shoe store. He succeeded once for six dollars at Julius Harry’s shoe shop and was arrested on stage at the opera house Monday evening while aiding a performance. He had prior forgery attempts at the shoe store and a ten dollar check at Springer and Carruthers failed. Wilkes is a miner residing in Shelburn with his father.

Whitfield Moore a longtime county resident died Friday at his Merom home from a stroke suffered about three years earlier. Born in 1853 to Pleasant Moore he was a farmer who moved to Merom two years ago and served as elder of the Corinth Church of Christ since 1879. Survived by his wife and three brothers Wake Peter and Pleasant Moore, with services held Saturday at Merom conducted by Rev. Joseph O Neal.

Telegram reports the death of Mrs. Tom R. Crowder in Chicago on Friday night. She was wife of Dr. Tom R. Crowder of Chicago, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Crowder of this city. The couple wed less than a year ago after meeting in Europe during post graduate medical studies. Burial plans place the remains in Pennsylvania. Will H.
