Haley Clark, about 22, in Sullivan jail awaiting trial for raising a five dollar check to five hundred dollars drawn on Albin Bicknell of Fairbanks township. Clark cashed the boosted check at Shelburn Bank after spending funds at events and in Terre Haute where detectives arrested him. About 250 dollars of the 500 was recovered. he admitted guilt and was brought to Sullivan.

Severe electrical storm damages farms in county
A severe storm struck the county Thursday around midnight causing multiple barn fires. William Burton’s barn at Fairbanks township was destroyed with its buggy and supplies valued at about 1000 dollars. Madison Drake’s barn near Fairbanks burned with grain hay and harness. John H. Pinkston’s barn east of Hymera burned with grain hay and implements. A hay stack on James J. Boone’s farm south of town was ignited and burned.

Crowder Memorial Hospital Opens After Overhaul
The Dr. R. H. Crowder Memorial Hospital opened last week to serve county patients. Incorporators include Drs. Joe R. Crowder Garland D. Scott Carl F. Briggs and Walter N. Thompson. The building is overhauled with modern operating room sanitation and space for six patients. The first patient, Simon Scott, underwent appendicitis surgery Thursday and is recovering well. Dr. Crowder is president and Scott serves as secretary and treasurer with Mrs. Riggs as matron and Miss Amacher of Chicago as head nurse.

County Commissioners awarded the Lyman Pound road contract in Fairbanks township to a local firm after bids of 4 825. Malachy C. Lloyd was runner up at 4 840 with bidders Bert Wood John L Gettinger John W Thompson and John H Pittman also listed. Narrow Escape In Merom Wagon Crash
