Alva Wood a 23 year old farmer of Fairbanks township died rescuing his wife and a neighbor’s daughters after they slipped into the Wabash river near Farmersburg. The body was found after a day and buried at Liberty, with services in Farmersburg. The accident occurred during a fishing trip and Wood's actions saved the women but cost him his life.

People’s Saturday Fair Set to Start August 15
The People’s Saturday Fair in this city runs 12 weeks starting August 15 with premiums for the first event and the full series. Vicious horse injures man in Fairbanks vicinity
Christoper Bean was crushed by a vicious horse at a Fairbanks farm and found unconscious at a nearby house. He recovered consciousness and reported the incident, with chest pressure near the heart. no bones were broken. Bean is a West Virginia native working for William Riggs this summer. Carlisle Man Turns Carbolic Acid Tragic Death
William Higgins 32 a Carlisle resident and former B and O railroad fireman died after ingesting carbolic acid on August 3. He asked for acid to aid his mother and collapsed shortly after, with a bottle found near him and no clear motive established. Higgins repaired automobiles and had just discussed opening a garage with Joe Akin and son.
