Democratic convention chaos in Second district rally
The Second congressional district Democrats hold a climactic convention in Bloomington to nominate a congress candidate after weeks of factional fighting. Delegates from 17 townships converge, with Charles W. Welman facing opposition from Cyrus E. Davis, William A. Cullop, Alvin J. Padgett, and Robert W. Miers as candidates. Support hinges on county delegates and potential cross-county pacts amid Republican strategic aims to nominate a weak opponent for Chaney.
