Queer Religion Behind Divorce Suit in Steubenville
John W. Shipley obtained a divorce yesterday after his wife joined the Resurrection Band led by Samuel Morris. The band proclaimed that a wife inspired to abandon her husband must not live with him, a doctrine Shipley argued contributed to their separation. Mrs Susan A. Crouse testified she tried to help Shipley’s wife see the movement as not of the Lord. The Shipleys married in 1885 in Smith County, Pa, and Shipley said he had to fend for himself for years amid neglect.
