Storm Floods Hit Town Causing Damage Across Street and Homes
A violent storm dumped two feet of water along the street flooding a millinery store on State street and swamping the home of Philip Revsling. Many houses and carpets suffered as two feet of water inundated the first door hemp. McLister avenue also saw property damage from a rising creek. A section of a retaining wall beside the S M & lO W tracks washed out, halting streetcar service until repairs were made by noon. A barn on John Hinkle’s Belmont county farm burned after a lightning strike, with losses above two thousand dollars. River navigation slowed as night darkness delayed pilots and several passenger boats. A temporary school south of St Clairsville was partly unroofed, water flooding the building and frightening the children.
