Flooded Towns and Debris After River Rise
Dozens of towns along the river were submerged with depths of several feet in lower areas and about two feet in upper sections. A wrecked towboat and overturned barges added to flood debris while telephones and rail service were disrupted. Residents fled to upper floors as water covered streets and houses, with Some areas reporting suspended business and limited communication. Volunteers and crews worked to repair tracks and restore service as the river began to fall.
