The Manufacturers, Light and Heat Company filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio proposed rate hikes for Domestic, Churches, Public Schools and Public Hospitals, and for drilling wells and flat rate service across numerous towns and counties including Brilliant, East Liverpool, Steubenville, Bellaire, Martins Ferry, Shadyside, Wellsville, Toronto and Jefferson County. The changes would merge hospital with church and school classifications in several areas and end street lighting as a paid service, with specific new tiered rates and discounts applying to different consumption blocks and districts.
