The Herald-Star reports two offers for a federal postoffice site in town. Jones Munker bid 20000 for Market street east of his department store with 60 feet frontage and 180 feet depth, the site of the former London theatre. D J Sinclair bid 20000 for the Lacy Hotel corner property at Serlet and High streets, 141 feet frontage and 110 feet depth, plus an extra 25000 for adjacent saloon property, potentially raising the total to cover additional space. The government seeks a site with 40 feet of clear space around the building and ability to deliver mail via rail. Both bids aim to fit departmental needs. decision by Treasury pending.

Fire hits oil field as lightning tops several tanks
An afternoon electrical storm struck the Follawsbee oil field and La Belle area. A derrick was struck, six tanks ignited but were extinguished by drillers, with limited damage. Three tanks near the Richard Mahan property also burned briefly, gas pipes fueling flames before containment.
