Proclamations Encourage McKinley Memorial Donations

Governors and officials nationwide urge church services and collections on McKinley birthday week. Georgia will hold memorials and collect offerings on January 29, with Georgia churches asked to fund the memorial. No Evidence Found Linking Americans to Shooting at New Chiang

Pekin report states United States consul Henry B. Miller and Vicksburg commander Barry investigated the shooting of a Russian soldier during the New Chiang disturbances and found no evidence connecting Americans to the act. Conger has copies of the correspondence and notes complaints about oppressions and foreign rights encroachments.

Tunnel Disaster Coroner Probe to Start Thursday

District Attorney Jerome announced the coroner's investigation into the tunnel disaster will begin Thursday. State Railroad Commission experts will be examined as witnesses. if satisfactory, no DA experts will be used. The board's examination starts January 20. All injured passengers were reported improving.

New Rochelle tunnel disaster blamed as nuisance

Samuel W. Marvin reports a New Rochelle mass meeting committee finds the Park Avenue tunnel a nuisance that is unhealthy and unsafe. It seeks immediate action by the Governor, railroad commissioner, board of health, and Legislature to abate the menace and hold railroad managers morally responsible for the carnage and destruction.

Land Company Stockholders Reelect Directors in Omaha

The Walon Land Company held its annual meeting in Omaha on January 14 at the Union Pacific office. Stock represented mostly by proxy. The main business was the re election of directors William D. Cornish G J Gould E B Harriman Otto H Kahn W S Pearce all of New York General counsel for Union Pacific. The board will reconvene to announce future changes.

Nash Takes Oath and Parade in Columbus Inauguration

George Kilben Nash was inaugurated for a second term as Ohio governor in the state capitol rotunda with Chief Justice Minshall administering the oath. A large public reception followed, and a major parade led by former Adjutant General Axline featured 1600 National Guard troops and prominent political clubs. Nash delivered an inaugural address urging bipartisan cooperation and national progress as Ohio enters its second century.

Grade Crossing Accident in Wheeling Area

January 14 update reports the east bound B&O passenger train nicknamed the cannon ball struck a Wheeling Traction car at a grade crossing in North Benwood near Wheeling West Virginia. The collision demolished the car and caused the instant death of Motorman George Hart. Five passengers were aboard the car and all escaped with only slight injuries.

Papers Served on Stockholders in Toledo Case

United States Marshal served 113 stockholders of the Sandusky Milan and Norwalk Electric Railroad to enforce double liability. Plaintiff John W. Doman won a verdict of 9000 for personal injury. The firm was insolvent with property covered by first mortgage bonds and owned by the Everett Moore syndicate as part of Lake Shore Electric Inc.

Boy Hurt While Stopping Runaway Horses in Monongaholg

Ten year old Clyde Cady, son of Jamey Cady, tried to halt a runaway team owned by Anton Brewing Co. in Monongaholg Pa. He was thrown beneath the wheels and seriously injured. His condition is precarious.
