SHS Cross Country Team Showcases Early Season Strength
SHS cross country runners led by Pat Cross and coach Mike Sullivan posted strong times in September meets. The squad defeated Moline 27 to 2a in the first meet as Pat Cross finished second at 15:56 and Jim Seavey placed third. At the Galenburg Invitational Sterling won with 65 points, Pat Cross dominating with 15:18, while Seavey, Landis, Hernandez, and Dugan placed in the top 30 among 77 runners.

Friday night at Roscoe Eades Field the Warriors faced Freeport. Troy King scored early for Freeport who led 7-0, then Yancy Shipps and Tim Wonder extended the margin to 21-8 before halftime. Doug McCoy left with headaches, and Freeport opened a 42-8 fourth quarter lead before Kyle Anderson late scores pulled the final to 42-22.
