Sept 4 1970 note from Student Lounge Committee proposes extending the junior senior lounge to all upperclassmen. After two years of relaxed restrictions in seventh hour and last year’s expansion to sixth hour, the idea aims to include morning study halls and make the program inclusive for all upperclassmen rather than a selective group.
September calendar lists events and meetings: Friday 4 Student Council Street Dance 8:30 to 11:30. Monday 7 Labor Day holiday no school. Tuesday 9 GAA Executive Board 5:30 GAA Lounge. Wednesday 9 IMA first period. Thursday 110 Spanish Club 180 7 p.m. Tuesday 15 National Honor Society FFA Ag Room FHA 130. Thursday 17 Faculty Wives 176 French Club 180 Board Meeting Board Room 7:30 X Country Dixon 4:30. Friday 18 Football At Newman.
The first Student Council meeting on August 27 in Room 306 set plans for a Street Dance on September 4 from 8:30 to 11:30. The Probes from Rockford will play, freshman elections were discussed, petitions go out by August 31, try-outs are planned, and a recall system to re-elect nonperforming members was proposed.
Sterling High baseball finished 10-5 under Head Coach Glen James with strong batting from Ken Massey and Frank Lee. The Braves went 6-5, with Coach Nunemaker noting mixed results but optimism for next year. key players included Randy Boeing, Jim Hand, Bill Bromley, and Captain Bill Fulmer. Varsity and frosh-soph scores against Ottawa, Clinton, Comanche, Hemstead, Dubuque Senior, Northeast, Calamus, Hempstead, and others are listed.
