Native of Nigeria and Chicago educator Mbonu Ojike will address the assembly on October 27. He will discuss his homeland where West and East Africa meet, its history government and future, and daily life of Nigerians.
All Whiteside county teachers gathered at Morrison Community High School on October 14 for the annual fall meeting presided by County Supt. R. M. Robertson. Speakers included Dr. No-Yong and A. Ht. Lauchner on teaching principles.
Five week reports on students work were submitted to the principal by teachers last week. Students whose work is not passing are reported and parents receive a notice detailing the reason. Make up work is due within three weeks unless a longer period is specified by the teacher.
The Hi-Tri and the Future Farmers of America sponsor an all-school barn dance on November 12 in the high school auditorium. Six chairmen are Marilu Holler Lois Stewart Francis Bethard Melvin Ieseman Dwight Sterenberg Leroy Duden. Refreshments will be sold. orchestra will play rustic tunes. admission is low with special rates for couples.
Orchestra LeRoy Duden chairs the orchestra committee with Maxine Kaiser and Barbara Rowland. Decoration is chaired by Connie Doermann with Polly Hloppler Martha Bartlow June Welker Don Behrens Bob Schuneman Louis McFalls and Don Snavely. Ticket Publicity Floor Show Reception committees list several named volunteers.
Sterling Township high school will present the senior play "Out of the Frying Pan" on November 18 and 19 in the school gym. Cast includes Bodell, Davis, Rees, Swehla, Dennison, Shannon, Ault, Lishman, Benson, McNeil, Coburn, Yeck, Garnet, Detweiler, Foster, Janssen, Kenny, Hang, Coburn, Bulmer, and two cops. Production co chairs are Marilu Heller and Johnnie Stager with multiple committees led by Don Dewey, Lena Ashpaugh, and Ansel Henderson arranging properties costumes business and publicity.
Junior Rotarians are selected by Rotary members to attend weekly meetings for three weeks, then new groups join. The aim is to expose senior-class boys to local business leaders, with emphasis on leadership, scholastic standing, and involvement in school and community activities.
The Student Advisory Council approves Homecoming dance after the Mendota game on October 15 in the gym. It plans fewer afternoon dances and more evening events after basketball games, with each upper class sponsoring an evening dance and freshmen a matinee party. Minutes are filed with the principal.
Haag and McNeil co chair the Halloween Frolic to be held Saturday October 30 at 7 30 in the gymnasium. Ralph Hang and Bettijeanne McNeil lead the committee with Carolyn Duprey Dorothy Stewart and others handling decor refreshments publicity and floor show. Admission is affordable and the event welcomes all faculty and students for a night of dancing and fun despite the lack of a dating focus.
The Army Navy College Qualifying Test will be given at 9:00 A M on Tuesday November 9 in Miss Krughoffs room Room 8 at Township High School Candidates must be 17 but under 20 by March 1 1944 or be high school seniors graduating by March 1 Qualified students must choose Army or Navy on test day and results will report only that branch No changes allowed after the test date No deferrals to Selective Service for ASTP or Navy V-12 participation indicated.
