Roden Wins Voice of Democracy Contest

Dianna Roden won first place in the local I Speak for Democracy contest held November 15 at Sterling Township High School. Three finalists from each school competed, judged by Freeport directors Ralph Engstrom, P. J. Martin, and Dean Carey. Roden advances to state level with a clock radio prize.

Future Farmers Produce Winner at Dixon judging event

Representatives from the Sterling Chapter of the Future Farmers of America and five other schools judged corn samples at Dixon on November 12. Jack Whaley was named winner of the competition.

Robed Choir Plans Three Christmas Concerts This December

The Robed Choir directed by William Tonkin will perform sacred unaccompanied music in three Christmas concerts on December 14 at St. John's Lutheran, December 16 at Messiah Lutheran, and December 17 for students. Highlight pieces include The Spirit Also Helpeth Us by Bach and The Carol of the Drums with soloists Ruth Williams and others.

Traffic Club Elects Council At First Meeting

At the first meeting of the Traffic Club a council was elected including Jim Zeigler Neta Bowman Donna Wheelock Dianna Roden Harold Hussing Alva Wise Donna Smith Fred Sinroll Sandra Geiseman and Bill Fisher. A slate of officers will be chosen from this group.

High Judge Receives Award and Wrist Watch

An honored judge was presented with a wrist watch in recognition of service. The ceremony highlighted the judge’s contributions and placed emphasis on community impact and dignity.

The Bat Presented By S. H. S. Players In December

The S. H. S. Players stage The Bat a mystery in three acts by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood in the girls gym on December 8 and 9 with evening shows both nights and a student matinee on the 8th. Directed by Paul Clopper assisted by Joanne Whitaker.

Student Teachers Instruct In Sterling Schools

An open house on November 17 in the girls gym introduced Sterling High and grade school activities to G A A members. Student teachers Miss Pat Straesse and Miss Betty Lentzer, seniors at Northern Illinois State Teachers College DeKalb, will serve in Sterling for one quarter with Straesse in charge morning classes and Lentzer in the afternoon.
