New Cafeteria Plan At SHS Expands Lunch Options

SHS introduces a new cafeteria program for the term offering two price lunches. A 35 cent meal includes macaroni with ground beef and tomatoes, tossed salad, fruit, bread and butter, and milk. A 45 cent lunch features beef vegetable stew on biscuit, tossed salad, pudding, bread, milk, and fruit. Additional milk costs 3 cents, and other milk must come from the dispenser.

Graduated with degrees without brains remark

The remark questions the value of degrees by implying graduation can occur without real intellect. It suggests critics doubt formal credentials meaningfully reflect intelligence or ability.

School elects officers. multiple candidates advance

All elected officers have been active in school athletics this year and have served the teams well. The Student Council ran the polls during noon hours and between classes with home room nominations. For president candidates included Phyllis Woessner and Jean Myers. for vice president Janet Wetzell and Sue Scott. for secretary Betty Kalkwart and Judy Fisher. for treasurer Denny Stewart and Richard Williams. The junior class elected Richard Williams president for next year with Pete McRoy as vice president and Ben Kolis as secretary. Bob McCormick as treasurer, Jean Myers and Jim Brauer as Student Council. Sophomores elected officers May 12–16 to head incoming juniors: Milton Newell president, John Gerber vice president, Sharon Cassens secretary, Denny Stewart treasurer, and Charlene Wheat and Tom Moore as Student Council representatives.

SHS Students Win Illinois State Scholarships

Eight SHS students earned Illinois State scholarships totaling 2259 for tuition and fees based on an exam held February 1 and their scholastic records. Recipients include Don Edling Bob Elfline Steve Heller Richard Herr Oren Meyer Joe Myers Terry Rhyne and Doug Selden.

Field House Goes Oriental For Junior Senior Prom

Sterling Illinois hosts the 1958 Junior Senior Prom with an Oriental Paradise theme. Guests enter a flower garden scene on the fieldhouse floor, pass a lily pond, and view a pagoda throne where king and queen are crowned. Lanterns light the way to a balcony with pillows and fortune cookies. The evening features dancing and an after prom party.

The Township High School Parents planning committee invites all juniors and seniors and their dates to a red carpet theatre party after the Junior-Senior Prom on Thursday night, June 5. Free tickets available at the school office. event features a movie, ham and shrimp, beverages, music, prizes, and a surprise program as a gift from parents.
