Eighteen inducted into National Honor Society by tapping
Eighteen students, ten juniors and eight seniors, were inducted into the National Honor Society via the tapping ceremony during a morning assembly. Names include juniors Jim Ague Kris teen Ahling Kenneth Axelson Sue Hawkins Marjorie Knuth Bernard Kolis Elisabeth Lamm Jean Myers Janet Wetzell Phyllis Woessner and seniors Jim Breisch Judy Bressler Bob Elfline Janet Foltz Larry Lenhart Dave Lockhart Pat Nance Larry Zeigler. Incumbents total 13 with officers listed and a candlelight initiation planned tonight in the SHS library. Members recognized for Scholarship Leadership Service and Character.

May Pole Dance at Sterling Coliseum Sponsored by YMCA-YWCA Co ed Council
A May Pole Dance sponsored by the YMCA-YWCA Co ed Council will be held in Sterling Coliseum from 8 to 12 p.m. Saturday May 3. Tickets are sold in advance by council members with higher at the door. General chairs are Sue Scott and Les Johnson. committees cover decorations refreshments publicity tickets chaperones and clean up. It will be an orchestra semi formal event inviting all area high school students service personnel and guests. Also announced are new editors for the Script and Blue and Gold yearbook with Kristeen Ahling as editor and Sue Hawkins and Jean Myers as co editors. Anne Schuneman is assistant editor and Pete McRoy business manager for the yearbook. Carol Jane Meldorf is business manager for the Script. Both staffs will raise funds by visiting patrons to sell copies. Kristeen Ahling and Anne Schuneman are active in the Robed Choir and National Honor Society. Jean Myers is a Script staffer and active in band Robed Choir GAA and Student Council. Outgoing editors are Judy Williams for the Script and Sue Johnson Nan Lahman for the annual.

SHS Girl Wins Hauberg Award for Illinois History Article
SHS freshman Carole Benson won the 1957 John H Hauberg Memorial Award for her article in Illinois History May 1957 published by the Illinois State Historical Society. The piece will be considered for the Harry W Pratt Memorial Award of 100 dollars awarded by the Friends of the Lincoln Shrines Inc for the best student article in the February issue.
