Sixteen senior members of Sterling Township High School's Girls Athletic Association traveled to Chicago last Saturday. They shopped in the loop, saw the hit comedy Forty Carats starring Barbra Rush and Steve McKay, then dined at Azuma Sukiyaki sampling tempura teriyaki sukiyaki rice seaweed and tea with chopsticks. Attendees included Denise Andreas, Linda Blades, Chris Bock, Penny Brown, Peggy Davis, Ann Haglund, Faythe Haskell, Connie Lowe, Miriam Martin, Janet Mays, Elaine McClintock, Debbie Proctor, Sue Reader, Rhonda Smith, Linda Stewart, Linda Witmer, with Misses Strong Klewin and Douthit accompanying.
The 69-70 school year shows policy change, student activism, and new aims for practical goals. Officer elections bring a committed council. they pursue exams relief for seniors, donations to community programs, and a shift from the defective Judiciary Board to a 380 day student conduct proposal. A year of optimism, funding, and Earth Day efforts concludes with gratitude to administration and staff.
Ottawa varsity and freshman teams edged Sterling by one point to capture NCIC divisions. Steve Dickinson won No. 1 singles, Gary Helms and Larry Frye claimed No. 1 doubles, Bill James took No. 2 singles, and Ottawa finished with 12 points to Sterling’s 11.
